Hell-o-matic

Ged has been building a 3D model based upon Gordon's concept sketch we posted a while ago.
This is the original drawing:

These two test renders show our ideas for the final look and feel. We are still not sure if we should go down the route of stylised flat colours or give the objects more detail in the textures. Have a look at the two images and tell us what you think!

I'd say that was a hard decision, I like both versions. I suppose it depends on what the overall style of the show is going to be render wise ! If I had to choose it would be close but I quite like the untextured one.

Tis a hard decision!! I love'em both (miles better than the abortion of an illustration I did!) If the finished characters are going to be realistic than I reckon we should go for the second version. I do love the idea of the first one though, making the show a more stylistic 3d animation rather than an uber realistic one!

It all depends on whether you want your characters to be part of the scene or be bigger than the scene, there'd be no point having fully textured props if the characters are primary colours, people would end up watching the sets. I used to love Paddington where he was the only 3D character and everybody else including backgrounds were for the most part drawn. I love the render style and textures in Incredibles, it's getting the balance right, I suppose it's just trial and error !

I like the top one best, I find the other ones less graphic, but then I generally prefer flat 50's styles anyway.
Congrats on the funding, btw, :-) I'm about to update my blog link to you, I am somewhat out of the blog loop at the mo' and am so pleased it's all going well!

It's a tricky one all right. I think this is going to be an ongoing discussion over the coming weeks. Thanks for all the feedback.

Cheers Gretel! (I always knew you were stuck in the 50's HAHA!!)

I was meaning to ask you about updating our link but just haven't had the time! DON'T FORGET TO CHECK OUT GRETEL'S WORK EVERYONE!!
